I attended Tormead between 2004 - 2011 and unfortunately I lost my Mum to cancer whilst in Upper Sixth. During this highly upsetting and stressful time, some of the teachers at Tormead provided me with a huge amount of support which I have always been grateful for.

Last week, in memory of my Mum, I completed a 500 Mile Charity Cycle Ride in 6.5 days around the UK to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Mind. I’ve received some incredible fundraising support and the total is currently over £6800!  It was a tough ride with the ‘miserable May’ weather of gale force winds and torrential downpours; fortunately the sun finally appeared on my last day!

I cycled the whole distance solo with a couple of friends and relatives joining me for day stints as a boost. The route took me via various important places in mine and my Mum’s life; including a quick stop off at the Tormead gates. I have been training for this since December with some pretty unpleasant, lengthy training rides in the winter but it paid off as I completed the 500miles without any injuries or, miraculously, punctures.

As well as the distance being the equivalent of London to Frankfurt, I scaled the equivalent of Everest base camp (or Snowdon over 5 times) with 5552m of elevation gain. It certainly was a challenge I won’t forget.
